Welcome to the social plague of the 20-21st centuries.

I believe I've mentioned before that I teach a course titled, "Alternatives
to Violence" for a group named Peace Grows, Inc., out of Akron and
Wadsworth, Ohio. Peace Grows is a project of the NE Ohio AFSC (American
Friends/Quaker). The course teaches mediation, negotiation, arbitration,
listening skills, alternatives to angry responses, from personal to global
perspectives.

If any of you would like more information on it, please contact Sue Elliott,
our Business Manager, at

PeaceGrows .

One additional note, as some of you have noticed already and something which
is often not addressed but should be if a community is serious about
addressing this problem. With the course, we can work with both teachers
and children, but a community must not leave out the parents. And this
group is the hardest to deal with because of trying to make time when not
working, etc. Any such endeavor must not be promoted with the idea that the
children's home life (qua family) is responsible for their misbehaviour
(though, yes, in large part they are), but that the problem is societal
(which, yes, in large part it is) and the solution must include the parents
as well.

In Peace,
Larry
