A wise art professor of mine said, your students must know "WHY" they are learning something, and of course, you as the teacher must knpw "WHY" you are teaching it. If something is asked of you that does not fit the criteria, you have the right to say, I am sorry, that is not part of the standards and curriculum my students are required to know when they exit my class.
