We did a tile project at our elementary school that consisted of aprox
450-500 (forget the exact #). We did it in conjuction with a new
kindergarten playground area and used our annual school carnival as the
"event" to gather the kids and parents. We also charged $10.00 per tile
for each tile as a fundraiser-got the tiles at cost from a local
company, fired & glazed them at cost at a local company. We had all the
supplies and fired samples with many artist/parents staffing the "booth"
to help out the kids. We gave them a design sheet to have them draw out
some ideas before starting on their tiles. Had
some books/magazines on the idea/design table with people/
animals/landscapes to look through for those having a hard time getting
started. Each child chose their own design-no theme.
After firing all the tiles we laid them out and organized them for color
balance and numbered them for setting.

My company did the glazing, firing, organizing. PTA did the staffing and
organizing/transporting tiles. A group of us parents did the
tilesetting.

Very sucessful! Every year children come and admire their own tiles and
point out their favorites.
