To everyone interested in integrating art with children's books:

I just about have a list to contribute back to the group of
children's books and corresponding art activities.
My, what wonderful ideas people have been sending to me! I must have 50
submissions in only a few days. Such creativity!!!

As you may recall, I requested ideas for submission and possible
inclusion in my future book, Storybook Art. I am looking for true art
ideas that will reflect the style of the illustrator or capture the mood
or emotion of the book. For example, in Blueberries for Sal, kids might
make finger spots with blue paint, rather than paint blueberries. Or for
Polar Express, they might flick yellow paint and white paint on dark blue
paper to show lights and snow in the night sky, rather than paint a
train. These are to be art experiences rather than language or craft

These ideas must work for parents and kids at home or for chldren at
school, for ages preschool through age eight or ten.

If you think you have an idea to submit, I will be collecting them for
one more week. If your idea is used in the book, you will receive written
acknowledgement in the book and also receive a free book when they are

Here is the basic format I need:
- book title, author (and publisher, date, city if you have it)
- brief summary of book (very brief is fine)
Art Idea Title
Materials Listed
Steps Listed
Variations or Extensions

Very important - but confidential:
your name
city, state, zip
email address
* and which email loop you are on

You will be notified by December if your idea is selected or not.
In any event, all ideas will be posted back to the loops of those who
contribute in the next few weeks.

Thanks - I hope to hear from you!
