Hi everyone!
Thanks for responding to thoughts about spirituality. This morning I picked
up my NAEA Art Education Journal. The special theme this month is "Teaching
Art as if the World Mattered". This issue is a prime example of the goal
and mission of art, and perhaps onespurpose in life. On p. 5 of the first
article there is a paragraph that points our that the art room should be a
dynamic location within the world- a place where meaningful art learning and
world understanding take shape. It is a site where students meet head on
the issues and concerns they face inthe world. What are their battlefields
in life? What do they desire to be? Waht matters most to them? Why should
they care?"
Before that there is a discussion about artists being able to respond to the
cries of the world... so that art and socialchange do not have to be at
odds.
This is an energizing theme. One worthy of consideration.

Thanks,
Maryanne
