The book I am writing is called:
for kids from preschool through age ten/twelve or so.
I want to highlight favorite children's books and give an art
project to go with it.
The ideas for the book should either imitate the illustrator's art
technique, or should capture a mood or expression from the book.( I don't
want the projects to be "Cutsey, Craftsy", but rather am looking for
actual "ART " experiences.)
"The Snowy Day", sprinkle salt on a watercolor painting to cause a
snowy effect, rather than cutting out a snowman from a pattern.
"The Carrot Seed" - make carrots prints, rather than cutting out a
carrot shape and gluing it to paper.
"It Looked Like Spilt Milk" - make white paint blobs on dark paper
"Frederick" - make torn paper designs, imitating the illustrator's
style, not coloring a mouse that looks like Frederick.
"Gilberto and the Wind" - make a mobile sculpture to hang in the
moving air currents, not a kite made from a pattern.
If you have a favorite children's book, and can think an art
expression or art project to go with it, please write out your idea:
1. list materials needed,
and 2. write out the steps in the art project
and 3. write any variations, alternative materials or ideas, or
extensions you might have.
Also give me your full name, address, phone, email address, and the name
of the list/loop you are on.
I will compile all the ideas submitted and share them with the group
whether the ideas are used in the book or not.
I will let you know if your idea is going to be used in the book in
a few months.
The book itself is about a year off from being in hand.
I will be looking for contributions for about the next two weeks
only, so I hope you will be able to help out!
Those of you who know my books, know what type of art I like! if
you're not sure, go to my web page and check out "free stuff" where some
sample activities from my books are listed.
I hope to hear from lots and lots of people!
Some of you have done this with me before, and it's fun, isn't it???
Write with questions, if you have any.
