Woody: That gave me a laugh! A Superintendent's Day is a staff development
day. I'm sure you have them. They are at the discretion of the
Superintendent (I guess that's why we call them that...never really thought
about it). We have two full days scheduled each year (so they're not really
a debatable issue...nothing discretionary about them...they are contractual
and mandated by the state of New York). One is in October and one is in
March. As Department Coordinator it is my job to plan the day's activities
for my Department (although sometimes the Superintendent hires a guest
speaker to educate all of the faculty collectively.
Going to a "museum" will be an interesting change of pace...we usually stay
on site, and do hands on stuff (watercolors, pottery, fibers, computer art,
etc...). We also have a department meeting and hang up the District Art
Shows that morning so that we don't have to do it after hours. We have a
Show up for Winter and Spring Concert Season. With seven buildings in the
district there's always some event happening at our Theater of Performing
Arts. All grade levels hold their events at the Theater. Every audience
over the one and a half month period gets to see the K-12 Art Show that way.
