I have often done lessons on Mandalas but always firstly as a lesson on
making a pattern and second mixing colours. The students draw a big circle
about 20 sm. or so in diamtr. Then they make smaller and smaller circles
inside and in the spaces between those make a repeating pattern with
letters from the alphabet, on space might be done with V another with K or
O and etc. then they colour them with markers two colours in each space
that can mix to make a third; yellow - red, yellow - blue etc. They then
cut the Mandala out and we nail it on the wall with a very thin nail long
enough so you can then spin the Mandala and watch the two colour pattern
become a one colour line. They love this project. Best regards from the far
north, Rosa
P.s. as far as the problem about the religious associations we donīt have
those problems here. As I have mentioned before in my postings we are
fortunate that we can use nudity in art and certainly teach about all
different religious associations we want without getting into problems with
parents.
