first graders could do printmaking with halves of apples.....

My third graders last year did awesome drawings/collages inspired by Jacob
Lawrence and Romare Bearden. Our goal was to create a cityscape scene with a
parade marching by.....based on the painting "The Parade". We were even
inspired by Faith Ringgold to create a border pattern of repeated paper
designs to look like quilt squares. I xeroxed their school pictures so they
could put their faces and the faces of friends looking out of windows,
marching in the band, waving from a float. Talk about spectacular. I
introduced each artist one lesson at a time so as not to overwhelm
them.....and then they all just took off.
