Hi artsednetters--------------------------->

I tend to feel the same as Doug, as far as the "I'm finished" syndrome goes
for little ones. They seem to grow out of it fortunately. I make sure that the
children are keenly aware of the criteria, which means if they are finished in
five minutes, they have probably not done a quality job. They know this in my
classroom. Nevertheless I have children who are very task oriented and want to
finish as soon as possible. They are very proad when they finish too. I have
them go over the criteria with me before thay can turn it in. If it meets the
criteria to our satisfaction when we critique it together, I allow the child
to go to the "extras" box. Usually I provide donated paper. If low I limit the
number of papers they can use. I also provide anti-coloring book type
activities. This saves on paper as well, and the children are very creative
with them.
I am going to try a game table and drawing table this year, probably for older
children only. I'll let you know how it goes if you'd like...Good Luck to all
of us at the beginning of a new school
year!....................................Dawn in Tucson
