A beginning lesson that I enjoyed doing last year was making & designing
parfleshes. A parfleshe is a native american carrying case/portfolio.
Instead of asking my MS students to purchase a sketch pad for the year, this
worked out wonderfully! They are made out of a brown grocery bag to simulate
rawhide. It closes with a flap on either side & ties shut with twine. We
punched holes in the inside middle & added paper fasteners that held several
sheets of school copy machine paper. Students took notes & made practice
sketches in their parfleches.
