This may have been discussed at length at sometime in the past. Right now my
district has asked me to write up the allignment of the Art Standards with our
H.S curriculum. I will be paid for up to 8 days of work. The problem: I
have been at the H.S for 2 years now and from what I can see there has never
been a written curriculum, only loads of lesson plans that the previous
teacher and the other art teacher in the department have written. I can
expect no help from the other art teacher, he feels the "art standards" are
just another big ballyhoo that will be gone in a few years like all the other
great ideas for improving education. I need to write a Mission statement for
what HS students will learn in the Art Department and then some kind of
"impressive" document for the Board. Does anyone know where I might find
examples of what it is I am supposed to do so I can at least have an idea
where I'm going. I realize every art department is quite individual as to the
exact courses they teach but a curriculum should be more general, broader,
more in terms of what you want the students to know.
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
