Dear Fellow Educators
My school district last week hired 4 part-time art teachers to
teach art in the elementary schools. We have programs in the middle and
high schools. Parents have petitioned and begged for art in the elementary
school for years.
There are 7 elementary schools and each art teacher will teach for
3 and 1/2 hours a day in one school for half the year. They will get a
second different school in January. The 4th teacher will teach for 2 hours
in one elementary school for one year.
No mention has been made of supplies...but it probably will not be
much. Yes, it will probably be art on a cart.
Now they need to scramble for a curriculum..our state has standards
of learning (SOLS) but no curriculum guide...it is up to individual
Please help by giving some general guidelines telling us what you
(with experience) would do. You know... we have to make it good so funding
increases next year.
I have been saving elementary art ideas for months in anticipation
of this. I think we are on six six-week time blocks.
It would be effective it the program was county wide.
Thanking you in advance...3 new teachers and I await your advice.
