Hi Tina. I have done many project with Marc Chagall. But a favorite one is
a wedding picture. I use some of his works of bride and bridegroom flying
in the air. They are: the lovers in blue and bride and groom and the Eiffel
Tower. After introducing Chagall, telling about his background, where he
was born, raised and lived etc. Also that in his works he likes to tell
stories about his people. I ask my student how they would tell stories
about our culture f.example about weddings. In Chagallīs work they point
out all the things they think are special for his peopleīs culture. Then we
make some sketches of different wedding pictures, adding a sense of
adventure or a dreamlike story. Then each student and I choose the best
sketch they have done and they make a rather large(35cm x 65 cm) and draw
the picture with a black crayon or coal, and then paint it with tempera. If
the outlines are done in charcoal it is good to go over it with very thin
white tempera before starting to paint it. I have often done this with 9,
10 and 11 yrs. old and they have done beautiful works.
Best regards from the far north, Rosa

Hi! Has anyone out there done any projects with the artist Marc Chagall
that they would like to share. It would be for the 3rd grade level.
Thank you in advance
