charter school

Hi all-
Just wondering about two things. Number one, How is the teacher demand near
you? I just attended a job fair here in Arizona at ASU, and I am so
disappointed. There was nothing available for art teachers, especially at the
secondary level. All vacancies were out-of-staters, and although I'd LOVE to
move, that's not my reality now.

Number two- Does anyone have charter school experience?--Good experiences? I
don't know about your state, but charter schools have been coming out of the
wood-work here. A lot of them are also being busted for mis-appropriating
funds, or something similar. I actually worked at a first year charter
school--I can't believe I am actually considering another charter school after
that!!! The director had (has) no educational experience--business man. In
addition, always said different things to different people. Even the students
called him a liar. I had to take him through the state labor board to receive
my pay after laying me off and also after promising us all secure positions.
What a nightmare. I know they are not all like this, but I am still extremely
weary. Also, public schools don't give you full benefits for charter
experience. I had to start at the bottom of the pay scale with them.

My questions are : what are your charter school experiences and teacher to job
ratio like?

I'd also like to use my experiences to warn others-DANGER! BEWARE!
