outdoor sculptures

Our middle school teachers are interested working together on a unit so
that the students can create an outdoor sculpture garden as part of
their assessment. What materials are suitable for us to use? Is there
a sealer that we can use on cloth mache that will stand up to the rain?
Anything goes in the winter - could be balmy, could be freezing rain and
snow!!
