Dear Artsed folks,
I enjoyed and appreciated the responses on architecture sites
and ideas. I thought that I would share one of my favorite
Using houses that are unique to the students home town,
photograph and enlarge several outstanding examples into
color transparencies. After discussing the various styles
and parts of the houses, give them a large variety of
architectural elements. The students plan and construct
their own house on paper.
The next connection is to use an example of an artist that
uses architectural forms in jewelry. Using shrink plastic as
the jewelry medium, the students trace their finished paper
house using a sharpie marker and finish the details with
colored pencils. After heating and shrinking, a jewelry
finding of a pin is glued on the finished house. The results
are wonderful.
