Last spring I made a request on this list for resources and links related
to art created in the community interest. Some of you may recall that I
was going to use this information in preparing a course. Well, I'm happy
to report that the course is finally being offered this fall for the first
time...its called Expanded Contexts: Art and Community. I have 16 art
students enrolled in the class. Among the projects we'll be doing is a
school-based project that I'm calling the "Community Maps Project" in which
my students will be paired with local school children (indentified as "at
risk") to create collaborative maps of their community.

I've put up a web site for the course at:

For now, the only thing up that might interest people is the web links page
which includes a number of great web resources in this arena. I've also
included the course syllabus. At a later time, we'll be showing examples
of student work and I'll put up descriptions of the projects for teacher

Thanks to those who suggested web sites.
