Mouse Paint is one of my VERY favorite books for my kindergarten art
students! Last spring I invited our school's P.E. teacher to join with my
kindergarten art class. She and I invented a fun relay game with tubs of
red, yellow and blue paint on the playground. It went something like this:
1 - the kids took off their shoes and socks and lined up behind a tub of red,
yellow or blue paint.
2 - as the kid stepped into the tub of paint, they had to choose which
secondary color they wanted.
3 - stepping out of the first color (i.e. red) they pattered little red
footsteps over to the second color (i.e. yellow) tub of paint, stepped into
it, and then pattered their newly "oranged" footprints over to a large wash
tub -- where some 4th grade helper students assisted them in washing off
their feet.
4 - then they raced, bare-foot, up a grassy hill to dry off their feet and
"win" !
This was a MOST FUN and exciting activity involving art, literature, physical
education and we even got the custodian involved in hosing off little bare
feet! A bonus at the end of the activity was an awesome circular pattern of
primary and secondary colored footprints left on the playground (which
eventually washed away after several rains)! :)
