Well folks, it looks like our letters and the response on this listserv to
Mannheimer's anti-art education article has had an effect. In today's
Indianapolis Star, the dean of the Herron School of Art wrote a letter to
the editor that began like this:

"I wish to address an issue that has been plaguing the Indianapolis art
community for the past month or so. It is the value that art education
plays in the public schools and the value Herron School of Art places on
its own art education program."

The author then continues defending their art program and ends it on a good
note:

"Why not try structuring an entire academic curriculum around the arts?
Perhaps that will accomplish what traditional academeics has failed to do.
We have everything to gain and very little to lose."

Its obvious that Herron has taken a lot of heat due to Mannheimer's
article. Maybe I'm living in a dream world, but I still think that
Mannheimer either needs to write an apology, or he needs to be given a
reprimand. I know that in my own job, I'd not have gotten away with such a
thing. My thanks to many on this list who sent in letters to the editor. I
saw at least 6 letters by members of this list. Several of you have shared
responses with me from Mannheimer to their letters. I think the readers of
this list would be humored (or enraged) by them.

Again, thanks for your support!
