We require adminstrators attend two full weeks of professional development in
the summer with their teachers (classroom teachers and specialists who are
attending art, music, or theatre for two weeks). The following summer, the
teachers are expected to return for a one week multi-arts experience and the
administrators are invited. We are continually amazed and impressed at the
number of administrators who return voluntarily. For us, it makes our effort
more effective because we know the teachers will have support when they go
back to their classroom. Getting them involved and keeping them informed of
what is really going on has really paid off.
