On the topic of themes, I can't resist the changing of the age--I find it has
so much significance in terms of the past (art history). I am planning
several lessons based on this theme. One will be the visualization of a ship
to take us on to the next thousand years. What would you want to take with
you on that ship???? The ship could be brought to life in painting, drawing
or computer graphics or it could be built in 3-D. We could talk about the
solar boats of the pharoahs (crossing over into the afterlife), Viking ships
(like the Sutton Hoo), again crossing over to eternity. Vessels that marked
the coming of another age--the Turner painting of the sailing vessel the
Temeraire being towed by a steam ship to be broken up(the impact of the
industrial revolution). (The National Gallery in London has a wonderful
teacher's packet and video about this painting).
I feel as if if I have just begun to scratch the surface on this one. I would
also like to do a mural for the school on the same theme. Anyone planning
anything on this theme ?--I would like to hear from you . By the way, I am
the new art teacher at Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, Calif.
Today was my first day cleaning my room and getting organized. Needless to
say, I am as happy as a clam at high tide!!!
Best regards,
