[teacherartexchange] combining high school art classes?

My colleague has been asked to combine studio art classes for the first time due to low enrollment. He will now have Studio I, Studio II, and Studio III all together in one class, but each are at various levels of learning. He will have about 19 kids together in one class. Have any of you been asked to do this? I have heard it is not uncommon. I teach the elementary grades, so I do not have this problem. Any of you high school teachers been asked to do this? If so, got any good tips on how to successfully merge these classes? Thanks. Katrina
