I like to use soundtracks from movies. I got a cd one year called "Cat Calm"
for hyper pets, but it seemed to work on the kids too!

One of my favorite projects is an oil pastel project that deals with
expressing what you hear in the music through line, color, movement, etc. I
do a different set of music each day. They have to completely cover a paper,
blend colors, and no recognizable images - purely abstract. Doing a bunch of
pre-work with meaning of lines and color lead up to some great displayable
work.

Greg Percy's "Songs in the Key of Art" CDs are more elementary, but we
still love them at the middle school!

doodles: Have you thought about Zentangles? It combines with
meditative quality. Our whole school did 2''x2' ones at the beginning
of the year and put some together to make a huge on to display. Kids
kept doing them all year long!

Ellen,

These images are so inspirational! Thank you so much for posting! I
have a much better idea of what I want
to teach the kids.after seeing these.

Best of all, these images make me want to dive in there right with my
students! Oh please can I? : )

I have been teaching for 10+ years and realize I need to try new ideas
