I suspect from the language used that this is some kind of approach based upon constructivism. Constructivism is a theory as to how individuals learn best...The practices associated with constructivism are learner centered and focused on learning. Some see this as being in opposition to the instructivist philosophy that focuses on direct teaching by a teacher rather than on learning by an active learner. Of course this is just a guess. Look up constructivism on the web. There are generally three major forms of constructivism: cognitive(Piagetian), social constructivism (Vygotsky), and radical constructivism. Practices such as cooperative learning, project based learning, problem solving, etc. I hope this helps.

In college I studied art and then took a few education classes which really told us NOTHING about how to sucessfully deliver or teach a lesson. Everything seemed based around speaking to kids one-on-one, which I can not base a lesson for 32 students in a class on. Now, 9 years later, I think I am just finally beginning to catch on. It has been a very hard road that I have tried and tried to get off of, but just can't seem to find another path in life. I must say that this list serv has been an endless source of ideas and encouragment.
