I live and work in an area that is bombarded with grafitti on a daily basis. I am not a big fan of taggings, but I am a die hard fan of grafitti. Big difference. I love the works on the trains in New Yok and the river washes in LA. The good graffitti artists have an incredible command of color, light, spacing, etc. I think it's some of the best art being made. Yes, my husband and I hate having to spend our Sunday afternoons painting over the unartistic taggings of the local boys in the hood, but I always mourn the loss of a great graffitti mural when the city comes and, literally, white washes over it. As far as the unfortunate killings of people approaching taggers, there are far too many killings of any kind in this country whether it be with a spray can in hand or semi automatic. - Katrina Alexy (art teacher in LA)
