I purchased an HP with vista a little over a year ago (when vista was so
new, non-microsoft programs were not compatible)....it was an unfortunate
situation - my student teacher dropped my laptop so I had little
choise.....but anyways......I too lived in Outlook Express, but realized
quite quickly that vista's "Windows Mail" is the outlook express
substitute - it looks almost identical to outlook and I had absolutely no
issue setting it up. Other than issues at the beginning with programs not
being compatible (ie: the marking program we use, Itunes, etc. all had to
do very quick rewrites to their programs, which I now have) I've had little
problems with my vista laptop (knock on wood!).

After two weeks of trying resuscitate my beloved 9 year old Dell running
Windows XP, I had to pronounce it dead and buy an HP with Vista. I was
horrified to find that new computers only come with Office as trialware.
I tried the Microsoft Home and Student 2007 software and found that it
didn't include Outlook. I practically live inside Outlook!
So, I'm planning on buying the full Microsoft Office 2007 Professional
from Academic Superstore for $120. You just have to provide proof of
working in an academic institution that grants graduating degrees.

I purchased my Dell online last fall and I have Vista Home Premium. I
did not purchase Microsoft Office Home and Student version from Dell
because I was able to purchase it locally for less. I just did a search
and found it for $85 through Amazon...and it does include Excel and
