I applied for a local grant to do a tile mural in a 20' alcove of my school. I figured I would need at least $2500.
I ended up receiving $700 and have 500 students in K-8.
I figured out I might create a series of mosaic panels and use some old 18 x 24 inch drawing boards as a base. I have eight drawing boards and first need to clean them off-some have crayon and/or glue on the surface. Any ideas for quick clean?
Now I am thinking of using "seasons" as the theme and have grades 1-2 create summer pictures, grades 3-4 fall, grades 5-6 winter, grades 7-8 summer.
Then have students select a few from each class. Then I photocopy, cut and paste to find final drawing and then transfer drawing to the wood drawing board. Finally have students fill in drawing with Venetian glass tiles and grout and hang the panels in the 20' alcove (maybe paint the alcove black first to show off the mosaic panels).
I have not worked in mosaics before abd spent a lot of time devising my scheme but wonder if the mosaics will hold up on the drawing board backings and if the drawing boards will stay flat.
Would love any suggestions or ideas and also any ideas where to purchase supplies I need at a discount.
