birthday board

I use one of my bulletin boards in the front of the room for an artist's
birthday board. I found a great birthday card that is a fold out of Mona
Lisa, Whistler's mother, the woman from American Gothic, and some cubist
chick of Picasso-all wearing birthday hats or blowing party horns. I use
that for the top of the board. Then I use the Art teachers' Book of Lists
to get the dates. I made a template on Print Shop that has a birthday
border. I put the artist , country, and dates of birth on it. I laminate
these as I make them. I have several for each month and rotate them. I put
the sign in the middle and put different prints around it or whatever
interesting stuff I have on the artist. I made a pocket that goes near the
bottom of the board and I put a book in the pocket about the artist if I
have one-most of the books are the Mike Venezia series. There wasn't any
really interesting artist that struck me for August so I put up Christo
and Jeanne-Claude (who have the same birthday in June) and some other
artists who have birthdays in the summer-told the kids they felt bad
because we never celebrate their birthday.
