This year I'm using artists that go along with our theme of habitats and
environments,etc... Living and Learning at LaFrance Thanks to all who gave
suggestions. I made a power point of the table artists to show during open
house and I have been using it with the older classes this week as we have
our opening days. The kids are really getting into Christo -they
especially like the Running Fence. The other artists I'm using are Ansel
Adams, Monet, Rousseau, Grandma Moses, Georgia O'Keeffe, Robert Smithson,
Winlow Homer, and Edward Hopper. Another thing I'm doing on the first day
is an idea I got from someone on this list. I have them fold a paper in 4
parts and draw (with pencil) a tree, a building, a person and an animal. I
have a folder for each child and a plastic file box for each grade level.
We have been doing this for 4 years on the first day. The kids really get
a kick out of filing their own paper and looking at how their ability has
progressed. When they graduate from fifth grade this folder is presented
to their parents. Be sure they date the page and write their first and
LAST name if you do it so they can be filed. I do this with 1st through
5th. For Kdg I have another first day idea that I got from a list member
also.
