I guess I am at the other end of this discussion. Pencils come and pencils
go......I had a teacher, with whom I shared a room, raze me up one side and
down the other because she accused my class of loosing/stealing pencils. In
fact...i would come in and she would have hidden the pencils so my students did
not have pencils to use. My feeling is.....we are a lucky district...I have
pencils coming out my ears...w/350 kids using the same pencils all week...they
aren't getting lost...they are getting used up! Also kids come in from after
school homework club and take pencils, I leave pencils everywhere.....etc.
So...I brought a gross of pencils over so she would stop hiding the pencils. I
traveled and it was really incovenient to keep trying to find pencils! I came
in one day...no darn pencils!!! So we limped through yet another class w/out
pencils. She comes in and again accuses my students (I had 2 classes on a
Friday morning) of taking the pencils. I said that I had just brought over 144
pencils so it would not be a problem....where were they......?
She had hidden them in her desk...!!!
So...my feeling about pencils is....it is the big battles that count....I
loose pencils constantly....I am too busy to negotiate the use of a pencil so a
kid can do their work......that is just me! Pick your battles!
