Music and Art integrated with 5th grade last year as part of a technology
grant (the tech part was filming, editing, etc.) through our school district. IT
WAS GREAT! In my art class-the lesson was about Harlem Renaissance. The kid's
heard Billie Holliday, all kinds of jazz, blues from the era as they worked.
In music they learned how to dance the Charleston complete with flapper dresses
from thrift stores (same time) and filmed them dancing in a speak
easy with the dramatic, blue, purple paintings hanging as background. The
paintings included night time skies with buildings all around. One had a single
trumpet player on the top of a building. Others just showed the faces of the
singers. The complete learning experience will be one that the students DO
remember! They sang, they acted, they painted and they danced!
