Carolyn,

Most Mac OS 9 printer problems revolve around not having the printer
drivers installed, not having the printer selected in the chooser and
or not having the right port selected.

First go to the apple menu and select chooser. This will open a window
with the printer drivers installed on your computer. If you see the
driver for your printer then click on it once to select it and close
the chooser. you will get a message about changing your printer and
needing to go to page set up. Do that and it should work fine.
