Michele,
In my classes, I have talked about book illustration and have showed examples from the "creative" Caldecott winner books to my HS kids. Illustrating Children’s books can be very lucrative as an artist as well as those artists who work as skillful illustrators in the medical field. These artists visually depict the "technical" aspect of the subject necessary in Medical literature. I have also talked about story board artists and their role in the film industry. Illustration is woven into both my art 3 (commercial design), 4 (figure drawing) classes. The importance of visually conveying an idea is what I stress in all my HS coursework. They seem to get the drift and we have fun doing it.
