. I haven't taught pencil shading yet and I'm thinking about it for my
8th grade, but I have all levels of ability in these classes
All I get of the middle school students is 7th grade elective, so it's my
only chance with them for three years. I teach them to draw 3-D geometric forms (
step by step demos )and then have them do a composition with watercolor
pencils and crayons. They love it and ALL, I mean ALL acheive success and they
continue through the nine week class and end drawing their shoes for the final
sketchbook assignment. THESE are fantastic and they are amazed at how quickly
they develop their skills. I would definitely include development of basic
drawing skills at this age.
