chalkboard paint

Well I finally did it!!! I painted my huge metal cabinets with chalkboard paint. They look fabulous!!! Haven't used it yet though as I have to wait 24 hours before writing on them. I found a quart of chalkboard paint did the doors of my cabinet (3' x 7') three coats. I did three coats of primer and three coats of chalkboard paint. It took three days. Day 1. 3 coats of primer then let that dry over night. Day 2. 1 coat of chalkboard paint in the AM, let dry 6 hours, 2nd coat of chalkboard paint in PM (around 3:30), .let dry over night. Day 3. Final coat of chalkboard paint in AM. After 2 hours peeled off tape and did touch ups. I am going to use rubber stamps with acrylic paint to do a little design in the corners.

Will keep you updated on how it wears! I had the primer. The paint cost $7.00+ at Wal-Mart. I used Krylon brand, but I have seen other brands. I had wanted the green, but am now glad I did the black.

Hope this helps any of you considering doing this. If it holds up, will be well worth the time spent!
