Re: elementary first day project?

I am also looking for a new first day lesson idea... this is what I did last

Last year was my first year teaching, so I did self-portraits with every
grade, and put ALL 500+ of them on display throughout the school in giant "gold"
tagboard frames for "Meet the Teacher" night. I put a welcome sign in the
lobby and invited parents to enjoy the "Central Boulevard Halls of Fame"
exhibit. I got tons of compliments, the gold frames really made an impact. I
grouped about 30 - 40 portraits on each roll of paper and then stapled the tagboard
frame around it. My school has cork stripping throughout the halls, so it was
easy to roll out the displays and staple them throughout the building, and
since Meet the Teacher night is only the second week of school, classroom
teachers didn't start using the hallways yet to display student work. It was A LOT
OF WORK, but it was well worth it!
