Re: Arts ed as integral, but who teaches?

Amen, Pam. Here in KY the arts are part of our state mandated testing, but
the arts include visual art, music, dance, theatre, and literature. Most of
our elementary schools here in Jefferson County, the largest district in Ky,
had both an art and a music specialist. Because of budget restraints many
schools are now hiring only one specialist to teach "humanities". So we're
facing the same dilemma-teachers teaching subjects they are little trained
to teach. The irony is site-based councils are selling this idea to parents
as a way to raise humanities scores on CATS tests.
