Ariali have recently been accepted as
a high school photography teacher and need some help organizing the
class. This would include ideas for lessons, quizzes, critiques, display
of student photos, darkroom rules, etc.....how long does it take to get
the kids printing?

I have taught a beginning photo class for many years for college
students, but the same assignments are being adapted by my former
students in their high school classes. You will find the assignments and
other helpful material posted at this web site.

The next page listed has additional assignment ideas that I used in my
advanced classes but you may find ideas that you can adapt
http://www.goshen.edu/~marvinpb/assigns.html
On class organization, I use the first class session to administer a
short pretest to find out who in the class already has any prior
experience with cameras. Then I show a photography video while I check
the papers and group them with one person in each group that has a bit of
prior experience. They then help each other learn the main camera parts
and correctly load a film.
For critiques, I have students fill out a crit form about another
student's work. They are then prepared to answer my questions during the
group discussion. This page has the "uncritical" crit form. It puts the
emphasis on the positive. Works quite well.
