Some programs such as Photoshop on the Mac can be set (in Preferences) to include the file type designation at the end of the file names when saving files - or use rename to type in the three letter file extensions. This helps Windows 95 tell what the file type is. I believe newer Windows versions are more likely to read files saved without file extensions. Reading the files on a CD depends whether appropriate software is installed on the receiving end to open the files. Sometimes unexpected things work. For example, you can look at .jpg files from within a word file in MS Word if the user knows to use Insert, Picture, from File. Tiffs may not work for this.
