In most cases this works fine. Software used for burning CDs varies.
Some programs such as Photoshop on the Mac can be set (in Preferences) to
include the file type designation at the end of the file names when
saving files - or use rename to type in the three letter file extensions.
This helps Windows 95 tell what the file type is. I believe newer
Windows versions are more likely to read files saved without file
extensions. Reading the files on a CD depends whether appropriate
software is installed on the receiving end to open the files. Sometimes
unexpected things work. For example, you can look at .jpg files from
within a word file in MS Word if the user knows to use Insert, Picture,
from File. Tiffs may not work for this. It is always good to test a
sample with all the file types you are using.
