Another by-the-way...there was an article in Reader's Digest, either this
month or last month...about how society has become so careful to build our
children's self esteem...but the bottom line is those children who often have
the highest self-esteem have the most off-base opinion of what they can
actually do. It was a really interesting article. The children who had the
lowest opinions of whether or not they were actually good at something turned
out to be the top of the group in the subjects they were tested in.
Self-esteem is ok, but knowing I can really do something, and do it well,
makes me not dependent on what others think of me.
