The second half of my printmaking class is dedicated to
screen printing. I first introduce the technique using
paper stencils, made from newsprint, and one color. Then
progressively it goes on to two and three colors.
Every year I use different topic/themes for the designs.
If I choose portraits, I allow them to use the computer
to manipulate their digital portraits. Other times I let
them do non-objective designs; or personal symbols, or
heraldry, landscapes, etc.
Since it is only 9 weeks, I do not have time for photo-
silkscreening but you may include that as well as film
screen. There is a company called Walsh that sells
supplies to use a thermal copier to make small screens
like for greeting cards. If you have access to one, that
is another alternative.
