Some of you ladies that don't have phones in your room...demand them! Don't
use your own personal cell phones, you're doing a disservice to the rest of
us. We as teachers have to demand certain things from our school sites and a
phone is a BASIC necessity in a classroom. If your students are like mine,
some of them may have asthma, epilepsy and/or seizure disorder or some other
emergency condition, there may be a fight, someone may have an accident, not
to mention, a kid might have a weapon or threaten you personally! Plus many
other necessities that come up. They expect us to call parents. I know that I
call, on average, five to ten parents a week. As a teacher it is your right
to demand a phone for your room! We need to start standing up for ourselves
as a professional doing a very tough job in 2001 America.
