Congratulations Jean.....My hiring in August four years ago was quick too. I
was told not to go on vacation in August and that lots of job offers were
given then. Plan on starting in pencil so buy 30 pencils just in case. Put
a vase on each table (bring from home) and you're set for the first day or
two. It gives you an idea of their level of ability. I find that the kids
like to get started right away drawing. I used to give a long talk the first
day but then realized that the talks in each class were not all that
different and they're anxious to do something. Don't be discouraged by the
shuffling of students that goes on in high school the first week or two with
changes in schedules. There are usually lots of changes with kids in and out
of your classroom and it's your job to get them caught up with the class.
