Blanket the World with Peace Project

On Thursday, July 5, Anna Martin, National Arts Education Association
(NAEA) Electronic Media Interest Group (EMIG) Chair, and BJ Berquist,
Associate Educator, TAPPED IN, met to discuss plans for a collaborative
Arts project titled "Blanketing the World with Peace". Envisioned in
the planning process is a digital quilt with a quilt square for each
participating school or educational institution. The individual
thumbnail squares would be linked to the school's website. The squares
can also be linked to poetry, music, dance and any other arts
contribution that a school or organization would make based on the theme
of Peace.

The theme addresses Peace as the resolution of conflict. Heart in the
Middle of the World: Art of Displaced and Refuge Children
( was created by Anna after a
colleague, Emil Tanay in Croatia, "showed us art work from homeless
refugee children. We thought the web page would raise awareness of the
effects of early experiences of violence on children's lives who did not
start the conflict and yet were caught up." This contact provided the
seeds for the Peace Quilt project.

TAPPED IN ( is hosting the planning and
discussion during the monthly ArtsSites Discussion Group. The next
planning meeting is August 2, 8pm EDT/5pm PDT. The mail lists, PAarts,; and EMIG,, will be used to facilitate communication
between monthly meetings. The group is looking for sponsorship and
funding to provide the necessary software for the webpage creation and
contributions from internationally recognized artists.

Respectfully submitted,
BJ Berquist
Associate Educator, TAPPED IN
