DBAE: Unity and Theme

I've always had a little trouble understanding these DBAE Art
Principles clearly enough to explain to my students. When we scan a painting
using the DBAE format and questions, I usually choose some other principles
to look for and avoid these two. If you have a good handle on one or both of
these, perhaps you can help me. It would be most helpful if you could be
specific and use a painting that we all know; for example, "Guernica" by
Picasso, "Death of Marat" by David, or "3rd of May" by Goya.

I appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks, Vita
