chemical worries

For those of you that have had hazardous chemical
briefings, could you help me figure out what the
safest paints to use are?

I've been using house paint because I need a lot
and want to buy in bulk (I'd be willing to pay though,
if I knew I was protecting my health). I paint in the
same apartment I sleep in, and the fumes and warning
messages on the side of the canisters are making me
nervous. Can anyone prioritize what to avoid -
'crystalline sillica', 'teflon', 'ethylene glycerol',
etc.? The only decision I feel confident in making is
to choose acrylic over oil.

Thanks,
Steve
