The Southern Poverty Law Center publishes a wonderful magazine called
"Teaching Tolerence". I just received from them and have been using
with my elementary art education students an incredible video and book
program called "Starting Small". It demonstrates a number of programs
throughout the country at the preschool and primary levels to teach a
respect for and celebration of diversity. Their website is
www.splcenter.org/
As Martin Luther King has said, "We must learn to live together as
brothers and sisters or die together as fools." (or something like that)
Reading their materials certainly challenges my thinking. I thought I
was pretty tolerant, but realized I still have a long way to go.
