Hello ArtsEdNet
I have been reading and learning from you for the past several months.
The number of messages is daunting at times but I have garnered lots of
inspiration from all of your ideas; especially those related to art and
music programs and art and math programs. I am the director of
education and humanities programs for a small non-profit
interdisciplinary arts organization with an educational emphasis. We
serve a small resort community and we are relatively isolated from any
major metropolitan areas with museums and other cultural institutions,
so we are sort of "it" for most people. We have a lot of community
outreach programs and a fairly strong relationship with the school
district (it could always be better). Recently, a local philanthropist
came to my director proposing to start a fund for local students to
travel to major cultural centers (NY, Seattle, San Francisco, etc.) to
see plays, museums, concerts, etc. and expand their artistic horizons
beyond what our little community has to offer. This funder does not
know of any particular programs that may serve as models for building a
program like this and neither do any of my co-workers. Does anyone have
any suggestions for similar programs or how we might structure something
like this? It is a wonderful opportunity for our community and I would
hate to pass it up. Thanks in advance for your feedback and keep up the
good work!
