The California Department of Education put out a book in 1996 called
"Literature for the Visual and Performing Arts" Kindergarten Through Grade
Twelve.

In this book there are a number of suggestions.

Copies of this publication are available from the Bureau of Publications,
Sales Unit, California Department of Education P.O. Box 271 Sacramento, CA
95812

One of the series of books for high school students it suggests is:

Eyewitness Art (series) by Dorling Kindersley 1993
I like this series myself. They are pretty good.

One of my personal favorite books is called, "My Name Is Asher Lev" by
Chaim Potok(spelling?) author of the book "The Chosen".

I read it in junior high but I think it would be appropriate for high
schoolers.
